Creamy Avocado Banana Chocolate Pudding

Creamy Chocolate Avocado Banana Chocolate Pudding

My food philosophy, in general, is that all foods can fit into a healthy lifestyle. The girls and I particularly love chocolate anything! But given that dessert happens pretty much every day in my home, I love experimenting with ways to build more nutrients and nourishment into treat foods. Now, I know you may be thinking, “chocolate and avocado?” She’s gone too far this time.

Honestly, I was skeptical too, but there is no denying the creamy, lusciousness that pureed avocado lends to a chocolate and banana pudding!

I especially love that this recipe is super easy and quick to prepare - and that in small amounts, it works for toddlers too (best to hold off on this recipe for infants because cocoa powder does contain some caffeine which is not advised for babies, although a little taste here and there is no biggie).

As a busy, full-time working mom, I’m always strapped for time, so recipes that take 10 minutes or less like these are high on my list of favorites. In fact, this Creamy Avocado Banana Chocolate Pudding is so easy to make, even the kiddos can do it (with supervision). Cooking can be an exciting activity to bond with your little ones and research shows that children who are involved in preparing meals are more inclined to try new foods.

Now if only we can get them to do the dishes…

If you have a toddler, this recipe makes a great finger-painting medium for the plate. I know what you're thinking…. did she just say finger painting? That sounds messy. She MUST be joking.

Well, actually, no, food play is an important step in self-feeding and building familiarity with new foods. Unfortunately, that does tend to come with a bit of a mess, but messes can be contained! There are a variety of feeding mats, suctioned bowls, and bibs that I love for this reason. They are made with food messes in mind and will save you so much time. I have linked a few of my favorites at the bottom of this page.

In my opinion, if a recipe is nutritious, easy to make, AND delicious, it’s a keeper. If it can be easily adapted into other foods, that is when I really get excited. One of the greatest things about this Creamy Avocado Banana Chocolate Pudding is that it can be easily transformed into popsicles by spooning it into popsicle molds. These cool treats are fun on a hot summer day, and wonderful for toddlers experiencing pain from teething.

Another option is to use this Creamy Avocado Banana Chocolate Pudding as an icing on cakes and cupcakes or even as a yummy chocolate spread for pancakes. Try adding a few more bananas to make it sweeter, or keep it the same - either way, it will be a hit.

Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado (the riper the better, this is a great recipe for avocados that have even gone a little brown)
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
Toppings (Optional)
  • Coconut whipped cream
  • Orange zest
  • Chia seeds

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, smash all ingredients together.
  2. Immersion blend until smooth and well-combined.
  3. Spoon into bowls and garnish as desired.

Notes

  • This recipe works best when eaten immediately, as it can be known to sweat and will get a bit watery if it sits to too long. If you notice this happening, simply stir to incorporate any excess water.
  • If you are using it as an icing, just know this will happen and shouldn’t affect taste.
